Tandem Interactive. Laratro, who also serves as a Pubcon advisory board member and speaker liaison, said he thinks what sets Pubcon apart from other conferences in the industry is the technicality of the search and social media conference. The insiders who actually do the work are amongst the speakers and attendees, Laratro said. With an extensive background in educating people on the topic of Internet marketing, Laratro shared that in his experience people are more interested in the “how to’s” than in the “What if’s” and Pubcon serves just that. “It’s the meat and potatoes kind of content,” Laratro said.
As Pubcon speaker liaison Laratro assists in selecting and scheduling speakers. There is still a need for speaker submissions on the topic of affiliate marketing, Laratro shared. High quality speakers are sought to expand on the affiliate marketing topic, Laratro added.

The focus at this year’s Pubcon conference taking place in Las Vegas October 15th-18th, according to Laratro, though still a few months out will likely include those topics that are attracting attention today including the most recent Google updates – Panda and Penguin, the recent Google Places change, Google+, and social search. Pubcon serves as a powerful venue for professionals looking for answers to their questions in the midst of the changing search landscape, Laratro shared. In order to get the most out of the conference, Laratro said planning is key. Laratro also suggested going to sessions not previously attended. Examine the agenda and predetermine where you have the most interest, Laratro suggested. From a networking perspective, Laratro said it’s more of an introverted group of speakers, especially for a marketing conference, but once you talk to speakers at one of the organized social events or even during lunch you will find that there are some great business relationships to be had.
Laratro will be speaking as part of the Pubcon Masters Group training taking place on the front end of the conference. Laratro shared that he will be presenting on the fundamentals of search engine optimization (SEO), with the other speakers taking part in the Pubcon Masters Group organic SEO track covering the more advanced tactics, link building, content development, and how social and reputation affect SEO.
Lastly, Laratro suggested attendees take a look at the spotlight sessions started about three years ago, that provide attendees with the opportunity to acquire more information from one particular speaker. If an attendee sees a speaker in a session that is of particular interest, Laratro suggested they determine if the speaker also has a spotlight session which can serve as an opportunity to not only hear a more in-depth presentation, but also a chance to take part in a Q&A session in a smaller group.
