Update: As of Tuesday, February 4, 2014 Microsoft has publicly named Satya Nadella as its new chief executive.
A face familiar to Pubcon conference-goers may soon be heading one of the world’s biggesttechnology firms. Pubcon Las Vegas 2008 keynote speaker Satya Nadella — currently executive vice president of Microsoft’s cloud and enterprise group — is likely to be named the firm’s new chief executive, replacing Steve Ballmer, according to a source familiar with the matter first reported by media company Bloomberg.
During his well-received Pubcon Las Vegas keynote address, Nadella — then Microsoft senior vice president of search for the MSN portal and advertising platform group — launched Microsoft’s "Silk Road" project for Live Search, and spent time speaking with many Pubcon attendees after his keynote concluded.
Should Nadella be named Microsoft’s new CEO, he would be only the third person to hold theposition, following Ballmer and the firm’s co-founder and first leader Bill Gates.
“Pubcon has established itself as a rich forum for Web professionals of all shapes and sizes to come together to network, learn, and share the latest on SEM topics and more,” Nadella noted before his Pubcon Las Vegas 2008 address.
“It has become a key event for us on the conference circuit, so our team is excited to be joining Brett Tabke and the WebmasterWorld team in Las Vegas this week for Pubcon,” Nadella added at the time.
Nadella is one of the storied lineup of keynote speakers Pubcon has had over the past 14 years, a group of technology innovators who have each had a profound impact on the social media, search, and digital marketing industries.
