The Independent Search Engine & Directory Network was founded in June 2005 by Jayde Online, Inc., the parent company of ExactSeek.com. It was an outgrowth of ExactSeek's commitment to bring affordable and effective search advertising to the online business community. As interest in ExactSeek's hybrid paid inclusion featured listing system grew, it became apparent the program would be better served by an active and independent association of search engines and directories than by a single company.

Enthusiasm for the idea of providing a real alternative to the pay-per-click model promoted by the search engines without the attendant problems of constant bid management, exorbitantly expensive bid prices, rampant click fraud, and dropping advertiser ROI has been overwhelming. Unlike the old paid inclusion model previously sold by Inktomi and others, the paid inclusion featured listing program offered by the ISEDN provides top 10 listing exposure, quick inclusion, low cost, variable terms and stats tracking. The ISEDN provides all the benefits of pay-per-click with none of the disadvantages.

The vision of an affordable search marketing network struck a chord with many independent engines & directories and, as a consequence, membership in the ISEDN has grown at an incredible pace with an average of two to five new members joining every week.

The ISEDN, however, plans to offer more than just an alternative advertising system. In the coming months, the ISEDN through its individual members and the membership as a whole will be introducing ideas, services, and products which we believe will enhance the web search experience and provide new and exciting search options.

Currently, ISEDN paid inclusion featured listings are displayed an estimated 150 million times per month or more and as membership grows that number grows accordingly. Currently over 225 search engines and web directories participate in the ISEDN network.
