Keynoting PubCon Las Vegas Wednesday Nov 12 will be George Wright. George is director and producer of the smash hit Will It Blend viral video series by BlendTec. If you haven't seen it - check out a bit below. It ranked as high as #3 for some time on YouTube's all time top viewed list with a staggering 5 million views in 3 days. The video series has increased BlendTec sales by over 500%. All this on a shoe string budget.
George says, "I was walking by Tom Dicksons lab one day and couldn't figure out why there was sawdust under the table. Turns out he was jamming two by fours in blenders to test them out. I immediately went and got my camera and told him to 'show me'!"
I heard George talk about WillItBlend at a couple of conferences and he just knocked them dead. The story is compelling and it stands in stark contrast to multimillion dollar ad budgets and corporate media buys, making it important for our audience to hear.
How it works is pretty easy : you sign up for Blog4Tix, pick out a show you would like to attend, get a free ticket and you can write a review of the show for your blog. You get free content, and the show gets press - that is WIN-WIN!
Look us up if you are at BlogWorld - we are exhibiting as well.

Hotel Sold Out. We are happy and sad to announce that Treasure Island is sold out for select days during our conference. There are a few selected rooms they hold back through online aggregators such as Hotels.com and Expedia - but the huge room block we had set aside for us is gone.
There are some great deals to be had at local hotels in Vegas during the conference. Please check hotel sites directly.

First, the stats:
We received over 500 unique speaking proposals.
We have around 90 sessions this year.
350 speaking slots.
Around 130 speakers needed total.
So for every one speaker slot, we had more than three people wanting that slot. We have never had anything quite like this before. What an intense rush it was sorting it all out. Making the speaking assignments is like solving a rubik's cube with 90 sides.
Thank you so much to all the people who proposed speakers and sessions. Please watch your email for a special discount coupon to attend the conference as our way of saying thanks for taking the time to submit a proposal. We certainly keep these from year-to-year and will refer back to them in the future.
I remember back to PubCon Orlando where we had to really work hard to fill the sessions with speakers. The next year in Vegas (our first year) was just about as bad. I had Oilman speaking or moderating on sessions for two days straight in order to have enough coverage.
So with that, we are close to publishing the semi-final grid. Aside from some search engine speakers and some double-top-secret confirmations, that's a full lid!
Also, thanks to Jeff Randall for helping with the speaker biographies, Joe Laratro for helping lay out sessions and speakers, and the rest of the team for all the suggestions and help.

We are excited to announce a special hotel rate for registered PubCon attendees. We have selected Treasure Island as this years conference hotel. TI has a trendy and hip atmosphere at the heart of the swank north end of the strip. All TI rooms have been recently refurbished to exacting plush standards. I stayed there a couple months ago and was surprised at how lavish the rooms could be.
PubCon has secured a limited number of rooms during the conference for the incredibly low rate of $109 a night. We think it is one of the best hotel values PubCon has ever offered.
Please note that dates outside the conference dates may be slightly higher at the hotel (weekends always are in Vegas - inquire for alternative dates when booking).
The night life at TI is especially active and intense.
There are several top nightclubs at TI, including the intimate Vegas hotspot Mist and the central Breeze bar for networking. For top notch dining, be sure to stop at the TI Steak House.
There is the incredible Mystere by Cirque Du Soleil. PubCon attendees from last year will remember we had a couple nights of special events around Vegas that we called Bloggers Night Out. We are not ready to announce anything just yet, but if you are a blogger coming to PubCon, I wouldn't book any shows just yet ;-) (BIG info in the coming months!).
While we enjoyed being over at the Wynn last December, they were just not in the ball park of last years rate. We feel strongly that attendees to PubCon would appreciate that this years rate was 30% less than last year, and 50% less than two years ago. With the early bird specials on registration, this makes PubCon 2008, the least expensive per day conference cost since PubCon Orlando over five years ago! That means, our conference + hotel is less than half (possibly a third) what other related conferences cost. We know that the majority of conference goers will go to two or more conferences every year - so it is critical for us to help you keep costs down and why we strive to keep this conference significantly lower in cost than competing conferences.
Booking instructions: You will need a credit card to secure a room, and use the code PubCon08 when calling in reservations: 1-888-503-8999.

Today is the end of the way early bird registration deadline. We are strongly committed to keeping this conference affordable. The price is less than half of other competing search conferences. Our full three day conference price is cheaper than other conferences' single day admission price!
Click register on the top or left hand menu to register today.
A hotel deal for registered attendees is actively being completed, and something should be posted here before the end of the week.

We are really excited about this year's conference and work on it is progressing rapidly. A few updates:
Many sessions have been booked and are near publishing. A tentative schedule has been posted. The most exciting to be posted is the enhanced Social Medial Networking and Marketing track. It is probably the richest and deepest sub-conference we have ever created.
Registration is now open. (see registration page for specials and details)
Several new and exciting full conference partnerships have been formed! We are more than a little excited about the opportunity to work with some other leading tech conferences on a much closer level! Watch for specific press releases and blog entries in the next few weeks!
WebmasterRadio.fm has confirmed it is planning a big search bash! (more details soon in another blog entry).
Additionally, several strategic media and association partnerships have been formed with PubCon.
